TVF&R, our fire department, says homeowner debris burning is the leading cause of wildfires in the state. If you can't compost your yard debris or take it in for recycling, visit TVF&R’s Outdoor Burning website. Call 503-259-1789 first to see if there are any burn restrictions that day. Keep the pile small, or use a burn barrel with a screen. Clear a 15-foot radius down to bare soil. Don't use gas to start the fire. Monitoring a burn pile from start to finish is required by law. Have water and a shovel nearby. If the fire starts to spread, call 911 immediately.
